I’d like to begin this post by making an announcement: I am not a good cook. Sure, I can make edible food. I can even make it taste halfway decent. But somewhere in my brains, synapses aren’t working correctly, and I make some seriously dumb mistakes. Take the following, for example:

Yes, that is exactly what it looks like. A spoon. Wrapped around a beater. That’s the sort of thing I do. But for the first installment of our Off-Topic Thursdays, I wanted to share a great recipe I found recently, and while that unfortunately meant taking the risks involved with navigating my way around a kitchen, I hope that you all find it enjoyable!

Here’s the recipe for making these amazing cupcakes, and a picture guide. My assistant, Jenny, guided me in the process. She is an amazing baker and is venturing into the business world herself, making cupcakes for the masses (birthdays, weddings, etc.). For Frosting:

In a large mixing bowl beat butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Gradually add 1 cup of the powdered sugar, beating well. Beat in maraschino cherry juice and almond extract. Gradually beat in additional powdered sugar. If necessary, beat in additional juice or milk, 1 teaspoon at a time, until frosting reaches a spreading consistency. Makes 2 cups frosting.

So for our first ever TT post, I want to talk about one of my favorite things: colored shoes! Now, for years tradition has been that you wear a white dress, and of course, you wear white shoes. But more and more, brides are defying tradition and opting for weddings that accentuate their uniqueness and speak of who they really are. If you’re not quite ready to take the plunge and wear a royal blue wedding dress, the next best step is to wear that favorite color of yours on your feet! Colored shoes add a fun, often unexpected accent that will set your apart. You can coordinate the color with your bridesmaids’ dresses. Or not. It’s up to you, but feel free to really get in there, mix it up, and make your wedding day and all its details about what the day is really celebrating: you!

But at the same time, I definitely don’t want to neglect the blog, my readers, or my clients. You guys are what drive me, and I like to make you all happy! With that in mind, the blog is going to be following a new format soon. I will (try very hard) to post every weekday. You read that right: every weekday. And each day will have a different topic/theme:

• Picture Mondays - Mondays will be reserved for picture posts from recent sessions
• Trendy Tuesdays - Tuesdays will be posts about current wedding trends. Hopefully,  these will be posts that will give you some good ideas about dresses, decor, colors… anything to inspire you about planning your  big day!
• Deal-Day Wednesdays - Each Wednesday, we will offer a one-day-only deal on products or services. This could be anything from a percent off deal, a BOGO deal, or even better, something free! These will definitely be good posts worth watching!
• Off-Topic Thursdays - Thursdays will be an anything-goes day. They will be more personal posts about things I enjoy, things I think are worth sharing, and things that you’ll hopefully like, too! They might include recipes, decorating ideas, couponing tips, etc.
• Follow Fridays - Fridays will be a day that I will fill you all in on a person or business I think you should know. They won’t necessarily be related to photography, but may be.  They could include interviews and discounts from other businesses, as well, so make sure you tune in!

Best case scenario, the new changes take effect this coming Monday. Worse case scenario, they’ll be up and running the next Monday. I’m excited about getting started, and I hope that you’ll enjoy the new format as well!

This spring, I am very excited to be offering dance mini-sessions for one day only! These will be non-traditional, artistic pictures, unlike the more traditional, posed, studio portraits you are used to. Space is very limited, so contact us about reserving your spot as soon as possible.

I love photography, but it is work. But it’s always important in life, for all of us, to take some time for yourself. Make it a goal this week to do something just for you. When is the last time you did??
